The challenge
Florasilk had outgrown its wireless. As the business expanded across its warehouse and office space in Bourne, the existing setup couldn’t keep up — dead spots between racking, connections that dropped as staff moved through the building, and no way to add capacity without it all falling over.
For a business that runs on handheld scanners, stock systems and cloud applications, patchy Wi-Fi isn’t an inconvenience. It slows down every job on the floor. Florasilk wanted a network that would carry them through the next phase of growth, not one they’d be ripping out again in a year.
What we did
We started where we always do — on site, with a proper wireless survey. We walked the warehouses and offices, measured coverage, and mapped where signal was being swallowed by racking, stock and the building itself.
From that we designed a wireless network sized for the whole site, not just the spots that happened to work before:
- Full-coverage design across warehouses and offices, with access points positioned to hold a solid connection as staff and vehicles move around.
- Business-grade access points built for dense, industrial environments — not consumer kit stretched past its limits.
- A resilient wired backbone feeding the wireless, so the network has the headroom to grow as Florasilk adds people, devices and space.
- Centralised management, giving us a single view of the whole network to monitor performance and head off problems before they’re noticed on the floor.
We planned the rollout around Florasilk’s working day so the installation caused no disruption to daily operations.
The result
Florasilk now has wireless coverage across the entire site — warehouses and offices — that holds up wherever the work takes people. Handheld devices stay connected, cloud systems are quick, and there’s plenty of capacity left to support the expansion and modernisation the business is investing in.
Just as importantly, the network is managed. If anything needs attention, we can see it and act on it remotely, so Florasilk can get on with running the business.
Reliable Wi-Fi is one of those things you only notice when it’s missing. Florasilk now has a network they don’t have to think about — which is exactly the point.
